Personal Statement

When getting up at 5:30 to train is difficult, I think back two years to the bed-bound kid who didn’t know if or when she was going to walk again, let alone if she’d ever be able to play football. I remember my dad taking me outside the house and the total shock on his face when I managed to flick the ball up with my feet, even though I couldn’t walk without holding on to him. These memories provide me with an infinite drive to train and work hard, and they also fuel my determination to never give up. Coming from there to where I am now, I will never give up or accept that something is difficult and beyond my reach.

Not only is football my motivator, but it also provides me with peace and a mental space that grounds me and puts problems in perspective.

I would thoroughly enjoy being offered the opportunity to study abroad and to combine my love for football with my passion for learning. I am a “straight A student”. I can not see a life for myself where I play football without also getting an education, nor can I see myself studying without competing to the highest level I can in football. Currently, I am studying Economics, French, and Psychology.

Economics has definitely impacted the way I view the world, especially when studying the inequality of opportunities that exists and that I see all around me in our society. This has sparked a personal interest in how women get equal opportunities and how investment in the women’s game will help football grow to its full potential. I understand that my studies are crucial for achieving these wider goals.
